"No matter where you are in the world, you are at home when tea is served."

The Story of Nilgiri Tea
A steaming, frothing glass of tea in the Nilgiris — or the Neilgherris, as John Sullivan (Colonial Administrator - British) called it — is comfort beyond compare. Arriving here in 1819 after an arduous climb over formidable forested slopes, the Collector of Coimbatore found nobody to offer him a cup of tea. Ergo, he did what Scots do: he planted it.
Nilgiri tea — strong and aromatic with a distinctive fresh taste — wasn’t brewed until 1835, when the first experimental nursery was started in Ketti Valley, near Coonoor.
It swerved past cliffs and vales cloaked with a latticework of tea gardens, their green acres dusted with a shimmer of morning sun, enrobed with diaphanous curls of mist and specked with gangly silver oaks casting miserly shade.
What awaits you here, is the best tea you can find!
Know your Tea
After water, tea is the most widely-consumed beverage in the world! Teas are classified based on their processing methods.

Orthodox Tea
Orthodox tea refers to loose-leaf tea that is produced using traditional (or orthodox) methods of tea production, which involve plucking, withering, rolling, oxidation/fermentation, and drying.
“Pekoe” is the highest grade of tea and has many further variations.
Orange Pekoe (O.P.): The basic term for a medium-grade whole leaf tea. Orange Pekoe tea contains long, pointed leaves.
Clonal Orange Pekoe (Cl.O.P): The word “clonal" does not mean the tea comes from a cloned plant, but simply that the leaves were harvested from very specific cultivators, known for their excellent quality and flavor.
Broken Orange Pekoe (B.O.P): The most common broken leaf tea grade is BOP. This tea consists of small-sized broken Orange Pekoe leaves.

C.T.C (Cut, Tear, Curl Tea)
Cut, tear, curl is a method of processing black tea in which the leaves are passed through a series of cylindrical rollers with hundreds of sharp teeth that crush, tear, and curl the tea into small, hard pellets. This replaces the final stage of orthodox tea manufacture, in which the leaves are rolled into strips.
-
Broken Orange Pekoe (B.O.P): Broken Orange Pekoe Tea is the largest small leaf tea available that is manufactured using the CTC process. The term Broken 'Orange' Pekoe harks back to the Dutch Royal family, implying regal quality.
-
Red Dust (R.D): The grade of the black tea, consisting of tea particles that are left out after sifting of high grade teas.
-
Super Red Dust (S.R.D): This grade of tea is made of tiniest broken tea leaf particles.
-
Pekoe Dust (P.D): Slightly bigger than Red dust, Pekoe dust is mostly used in homes.
